FAQs

FAQ: What is Breakout Waikiki?

Breakout Waikiki is Hawaii’s top-rated live action escape game and one of the highest rated escape games in the world. In fact, we are the only escape game to host a sitting U.S. President. We are family-friendly, intentional about quality time and shared experiences, and we’re pretty dang awesome.

FAQ: How early should I arrive?

Parking in Waikiki can be tricky! To be safe, we suggest arriving around 15-20 minutes before your reservation, to find a parking spot that works for you. Worst case scenario, you arrive early for your room – in which case we are happy to recommend some local food and drink spots to enjoy! Use this Parking Map for assistance.

Our recommendation for parking is at 201 Beachwalk Street in the Embassy Suites garage.
We offer validation at departure, and the cost after validation will be $6.00 (for 4 hours) — you’ll pay at the Embassy Suites garage.

Important things to note about the Embassy Suites Parking Garage:

  • The garage clearance is 7’
  • Breakout can only validate for 4 hours, any additional time will be an additional charge at the garage
  • The garage is valet parking
  • All day parking is available for $35.00
FAQ: How do I book a room?

Please book your experience on our Booking Page, or you can book in-person. We recommend booking online, as spaces can fill up quickly. By booking online, you will be reserving your spots (or the entire room) with a credit/debit card, but you will not be charged until after your adventure! This way you can split up the payment with the other players in your group however you’d like. If you want to add someone to your group (up to 8 people total) we can do that as soon as you arrive for your reservation, dependent on availability!

Large groups, parties or team building outings can be booked by calling or emailing us!

FAQ: Am I really going to be locked in a room?
The short answer is no; that doesn’t sound safe or legal! You will be in a room with a locked door, but it is equipped with an exit button and you are free to leave the room at any time. Of course, leaving the room early disqualifies any record times, but we believe safety comes first!
FAQ: How many people play?

2 – 8 Participants per room.

At least 2-3 participants are needed to play any of our rooms – but the more people you have on your team, the better your chances increase of winning! If you book a Public Room, you may be joined with another group – with a maximum of 8 players per room.

Players 13 and under should be accompanied by an adult.

FAQ: How do I pay?

All games are now paid for in person, after your adventure! You will be able to split payments however you’d like with the other players in your group.

If you reserve your escape room(s) online, you will input a credit/debit card, but your card will not be charged unless you tell the front desk to charge the card on file, after you play the room.

We accept all major credit cards.

FAQ: Can I book with my friends or family?

Of course! We suggest one person book the slots for your entire group when booking online. Every reservation defaults to a Public Room, unless you select the checkbox to reserve a Private Room. You can also add more people to your booking when you arrive to our location.

FAQ: Can you accommodate larger parties and events?

Absolutely! You can either book through our main Booking Page, or email us directly to rent our facility for your party or corporate event.

We also have more information on our Groups Page.

FAQ: If I’ve done a room, can I do the same room again or will it be the same?

The room and the puzzles will be the same, but if you’d like to accompany a group of friends on their adventure, you’re more than welcome to. We simply ask that you be considerate of your fellow guests and allow them to enjoy the puzzles as you did!

It is important to note: any groups containing previous attendees will not be eligible to set records.

FAQ: How long is each game?

Each game is 60 minutes, though we ask you to arrive 20 minutes prior to your experience for parking and preparation and 5 minutes after to debrief and take pictures to commemorate your victory (or defeat!)

FAQ: WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT PARKING?

Parking in Waikiki can be tricky! To be safe, we suggest arriving around 15-20 minutes before your reservation, to find a parking spot that works for you. Worst case scenario, you arrive early for your room – in which case we are happy to recommend some local food and drink spots to enjoy! Use this Parking Map for assistance.

If you are looking us up on GPS, the address is a little confusing. Feel free to use these accurate coordinates 21.279189, -157.830725.

If you have any suggestions of other places to park, feel free to email us!

FAQ: Something has come up, can I cancel my reservation?

If you have to cancel, we will not be able to refund you the cost of your room. We will be glad to help you with a one-time rescheduling of your booking, if you’d still like to cash in on your adventure at a later date! (See below about rescheduling)

FAQ: SOMETHING HAS COME UP, CAN I RESCHEDULE MY RESERVATION?

Once you have booked, you are committed to your experience. If you do not show up, and we are not able to get in touch with you — your card on file will be charged and there will be no refunds.

With at least 24 hours notice, we will be able to reschedule your room time/date once.
With less than 24 hour notice, rescheduling will not be an option.

Please note that this is a live booking experience, so bookings at high volume times like nights and weekends will be much harder to reschedule.

FAQ: ENGLISH IS NOT MY PRIMARY LANGUAGE; WILL THAT BE A PROBLEM?
We are still working on the ability to provide each game experience in English, Japanese and Chinese. We are looking for team members that are multilingual. If you are interested, please email us at info@breakoutwaikiki.com!
FAQ: Are you hiring?
Yes? No? The short answer is: maybe. The long answer is: we may or may not be hiring depending on the season of the year and the amount of bookings we have. We can’t respond to everyone that applies, but we still love to hear from you! We never know when we’ll need someone extra awesome to join the Breakout Waikiki team. If that sounds like you, feel free to head over to our Application and submit one!
